tudents at Theuerkauf Elementary School in Mountain View, California were taken on a field trip through downtown Mountain View to get acquainted with the idea of public art. Taking their inspiration from the nearby Shoreline Park, the students created drawings of plants and animals. The drawings were enlarged, composed into vignettes, and transferred to metal. The result is a 350-foot-long sculptural steel frieze along the top of a fence, entitled A Walk by the Bay, collaboratively designed by Bill Gould Design, artist Glen Rogers, and the students. Also at Theuerkauf, a wall relief sculpture incorporates student-fabricated ceramic masks, attached to a seven-foot-diameter circular steel frame. The title, A Thousand Faces-Mask Mandala, reflects the continuum of students over the years.
